Moving Day Tips

Ok so you have picked the perfect mover, you have followed our packing tips and your boxes have been packed to perfection, now just follow our moving day tips and you will be relaxing in your new place in no time.
  • Be fully packed!!!

As a mover I cannot stress how important this is. Don't assume that you will have time to do it when the movers are moving the big items, you will not have enough time as packing always takes longer than you think. Having everything in boxes will make the move go so much faster, which will save you money and will also keep your movers happy.

  • Pack an overnight bag/box with all your essentials

Lets face it, after a long hard day of moving the last thing you want to do is to start unpacking boxes looking for them essential items you need to get through the night and next day. Pack a bag or box with all your essentials such as a change of clothes, phone charger, laptop, medication ect. When you have done this clearly mark that it does not go in the moving truck and place it in a safe place.

  • Donate / Purge all your unwanted items

Moving is a great time to get rid of all your unwanted items, plus the more you get rid of the easier your move will be. Give yourself plenty of time so that by the time moving day comes you have got rid of all that clutter. Ask friends if there are any items they want, contact goodwill or even put them on the free section of Craigslist.

  • If you are on a budget disassemble everything first

This is a great way to help keep the cost of the move down. Items that usually need to be disassembled are things like beds and tables. Always to remember to put the hardware in a zip lock back and keep it in a safe place.

  • Reserve the elevator in your building

There is nothing worse than watching your movers stand around waiting for the elavator. If possible try and reserve the elevator with the building to keep you move on pace.

  • Reserve the building's loading dock

If your building has a loading dock make sure and reserve it ahead of the move and coordinate the times with both the building and your moving company. Failing to do this could mean that your moving company may be forced to sit and wait until another company has finished using the dock, and when you are paying by the hour this is not something that you want to happen.

  • Get parking permits

Having parking permits is one of the most important things you can do to ensure a smooth move. Having a parking permit will ensure you don't get a ticket and also that the movers will be able to park as close to your home as possible which will save you time and money. • Get moving insurance

Before the move starts you will want to make sure that you have the right insurance to cover your items. Check with your moving company what insurance options they offer, what it costs and fully understand what it covers. Also check with your home insurance policy as sometimes that policy may also cover your move. You can also check out third party insurance companies such as www.movinginsurance.com
